Conscientization

                 INTRODUCTION

                 Conscientization is the process by which one develops the ability to think critically about issues of power in relationship to privilege and oppression in different spheres of influence(local,national,international).It is derived from a portugese word which means critical consciousness.It focuses on achieving an indepth understanding of the world, allowing for the perception and exposure of social and political contradictions. It alsoincludes taking action against the oppressive elements in one's life that are illuminated by that understanding. 

                      As a part of this conscientization program, we selected the topic"Mobile phone addiction problems and solutions". Mobile addiction is a dependence syndrome seen among mobilephone users. Mobile phone users exhibit problematic behaviours related to substance use disorders. This is a triggering menace among teenage students. 

                  NEED AND SIGNIFICANCE

                        Mobile phones proved to be an inevitable part of our life.These gadgets are both useful and harmful in se way or the other.This is an initiative taken by us inorder to make them aware of the prons and cons of mobile phone usage and addiction.In the present world there is an increase in the usage of mobile phones leading to addiction.As this is the case,the new generation have to improve the ways to use the gadget-mobilephone in the right way and bring out positive results which in turn helps in the intellectual as well as technological sphere.

           OBJECTIVES OF THE STUDY

       1)   To make the students understand the harmful effects of mobilephone addiction.

2)To provide solutions to avoid mobilephone addiction.

3)To make them understand about the proper usage of mobilephones for smart learning purposes.

                               REPORT

                                

          As a part of conscientization program,we the student teachers of HKMCollege of education conducted a awareness class on 12/01/2018 to the students of std VIII of Krist raj hss on the topic"Mobile phone addiction problems and solutions".Our group consisted of four members-Amina.Y,Rekha V M,Aneeta Rini Rajan,Parvathy s.The class started with an introduction based on the topic by Rekha V M With the help of power point presentation.In the current scenario of technological advancents and inventions,people can reach out every corner of the world within seconds.Mobilephones are widely used to gather information,play games,interner browsing,chating etc.She gave a brief description on the advantages and disadvantages of mobolephone use and talked about various smart learning applications abailable in the educational websites such as VICTERS,KITE,e-resource samagra,edubuntu.She pointed out some of the disadvantages like addiction of games and social media,sideeffects of being addicted.

                   I continued the topic by showing the ppt on the effect of mobile addiction.Being addicted to mobile is similar to the use of coccaine.I showed a video on the side effects of mobilephone usage and explained it in detail.I mentioned about the condition nomophobia,case in which one cannot avoid the gadget,mobilephone from their daily life.The radiations emitted from the mobilephone adversely affect the brain as well as eyes,skinetc.Mobile addiction leads to brain damage, decreased thinking ability,mental process and affects concentration level.

                       Aneeta talked about the solutions for mobile addiction and explained in detail about the ways to avaoid mobile addiction which is practically applicable in our dailylife.She gave instructions like switch off notifications, involve in outdoor games,avoid whatsapp messages and communicate directly to share one's feelings with family and friends.

                  Amina concluded the topic by showing ppt which included the consoludation of all the subtopics regarding mobilephone addiction.To reduce the use of mobile phones one should engage in co-curricular activities such as dance, music,swimming,sports etc.and to enhance creative thinking.In short,mobilephones destroys all kinds of happinesss in our life.

                     REFLECTION

                 After the awareness class,the students shared their experiences on the topic.Bobin,one of the student in the class came forward and talked about his friend who is an addict of mobilephone.The boy was a brilliant student in the class.After being addicted to mobile,he lost his concentration,study habits,communication towards parents and later he reached a state of depression.Ashwin talked about his own experience of being addicted to mobile phine. He faced many problems due to this and decided to quit the habit.Hence he achieved a good status in the class.Another student,Arun,who was also an addict realized the ill effects of mobilephone addiction through this class.He found this class very beneficial and decided to change.

               With these feedbacks,we understood that the conscientization programmme turned to be an effective onr in making them aware about the effects of mobilephone addiction.

                 CONCLUSION

      

             Conscientization is the procesa od becomung a critical thinker and unpacking dominant thought and oppressive thought which results from the cycle of  socialisation.Conscientization happens when a critical awareness is formed.It is the process of becoming a critical thinker. This joint venture taken by us turned out to be successful and effective one with the collective and active participation of the students.On the whole,we can conclude by sating that"Mobile phone addiction is as same as drug addiction"
